CBSA data confirm sustained high removal enforcement Status: Confirmed official statistics through June 30, 2026
What changed CBSA enforced 23,160 removals in 2025, compared with 17,397 in 2024 and 15,231 in 2023. During the first six months of 2026, CBSA recorded 10,607 removals. Of the 2026 removals:
8,551 involved non-compliance by refugee claimants; 1,303 involved non-compliance by non-claimants; 624 involved criminality; and 55 involved misrepresentation.
As of June 30, CBSA reported 40,827 files in its “removals in progress” inventory and 33,847 people in its wanted inventory.
Why it matters The figures confirm that removal-order consequences are not theoretical, particularly after refugee proceedings, failed PRRAs or loss of temporary status.
Who is affected Failed refugee claimants, inadmissible persons, out-of-status clients, people with enforceable removal orders and applicants considering restoration, H&C or PRRA strategies.
At intake, determine: whether a removal order exists; the type of order; when it became enforceable; whether departure was properly confirmed; whether a departure order became a deportation order; whether an ARC may be required; and whether Federal Court, PRRA or other proceedings legally stay removal.
Do not assume that leaving Canada without reporting to CBSA automatically satisfies a departure order.
